Kathmandu, May 26: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged one and all to be united with passion to face the devastation occurred due to the quake.

Receiving a cheque equivalent to Rs 280,000 collected from Nepalis residing in United States, by 'uskhabar.com' as relief to quake survivors, Prime Minister Koirala said that the problems would be resolved soon if we all unite to face it.

Stating that the relief amount deposited in the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Fund has been utilized in a transparent manner, he expressed the commitment that stern action would be taken against those misusing the fund.

  The Prime Minister said that the government has adopted the one-door system in the rescue and relief task in order to provide the relief materials to all quake survivors in the affected districts.

On the occasion, PM Koirala thanked all those providing support to the fund. The relief amount was handed over at the coordination of the Nepal Press Union.

Meanwhile, Minister for Energy, Radha Gyawali, handed over the cheques, on behalf of Nepal Electricity Authority equivalent to Rs 25 million, of Rs 500,000 of NEA employees, of Rs 20 million of Chilime Hydropower Project and of Rs 5 million of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, to the Prime Minister today.

Similarly, Ncell handed over Rs 100 million, Dabur Nepal Rs 10 million and Asian Paints Rs 1,111,111 to the Prime Minister.

Likewise, Employees of the Asian Paints provided cheques equivalent to Rs 711,111, Aananda Sangh Pulahari Monastery a cheque equivalent to Rs 3 million, the Karuna Foundation a cheque of Rs 500,000 and the Sapkota Samaj, Itahari, cheque of Rs 100,000 to PM Koirala. RSS


International community worried seeing Nepalis in sorrow: NC leader Koirala
Kathmandu, May 26: Leader of the Nepali Congress Sujata Koirala has said the foreigners are worried seeing the Nepali people's sorrow.
Organizing a press meet after returning home participating in the International Conference of the Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Vladivostok, Russia, on May 22-23, she said the conference discussed on making model village in the earthquake affected area.

The international community is willing to support for making such model villages responding positively to the request sent by Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, she said.

The conference has stressed on the need of establishing small and medium-size industries and creating job opportunities utilizing the local means and resources, said NC leader Koirala.

As many as 150 representatives of different 40 countries participated in the meeting. UML senior leader Jhalanath Khanal and NC leader Ram Chandra Pokhrel also attended the meeting. RSS

NC vice-president Poudel urges all to join reconstruction camp
Kathmandu, May 26: Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel has urged all to join in the reconstruction activities by negating the flashy culture.

After reaching at Bahuntar-8, in course of the party-led reconstruction campaign at Benighat of Dhading district today, leader Poudel added that the labour camp was a symbol of unity to overcome such natural disaster.

Leader Poudel further urged the government to provide corrugated zinc sheets and Rs 15,000 relief to the quake victims as per the announcement of the government.

Vice-president Poudel pointed out the need of constructing temporary shelters by using local construction materials and indigenous skills.

The village has a majority of dalit communities. Among 65 houses, 60 houses were damaged in the quake.

Two die in separate incidents in Nawalparasi

Kawasoti, May 26: Two persons died in separate incidents in Nawalparasi district along the East-West Highway Monday night.

Aashish Thapa, 20, of Bhalwar in Kapilvastu, currently living at Sunawal-4 in Nawalparasi district, died and five others were injured when a truck (Na 4 Kha 7559) heading towards the east from west and a mini truck (Ba 1 Ka 3531) collided with each other at Ramnagar , according to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi.

Both the drivers were injured in the incident. Of the injured, two are undergoing treatment at Bharatpur in Chitwan and the remaining at Butwal.

Similarly, Manoj Chaudhary, 25, of Maharajgunj, India, died when a motorcycle (Lu 19 Pa 2274) and another motorcycle (Lu 3 Pa 4471) collided with each other at Devgaun VDC-6, said police. Manoj was riding the motorcycle (Lu 19 Pa 2274).  Injured another motorcyclist Birendra Chaudhary of Devgaun-2 was receiving medical treatment. RSS

Relief materials worth one billion rupees enter through Kakadvitta
Kakadvitta (Jhapa), May 26: Relief materials worth around one billion rupees have been entered via Kakadvitta, the eastern border check point so far.

Chairman of the Natural Disaster Relief and Rescue Committee, Jhapa, and Chief District Officer, Tej Prasad Poudel, said relief materials worth over Rs 8.5 million and cash over Rs 25 million was collected.

According to the Committee, the government of Bangladesh provided relief materials worth around Rs 500 million including 10,000 metric tonnes of rice, tarpaulin sheets, food stuffs, among others.

Similarly, the government of West Bengal State of India also provided tarpaulin sheets around Rs 200 million. RSS

RPP chairman Rana urges government to resettle quake survivors

Biratnagar, May 26: Rastriya Prajatantra Party chairman Pashupati Shamsher Rana has said that the agenda of formulating the national consensus government was not clear.

Talking to the mediapersons at Biratnagar Airport today, leader Rana clarified that there was no decision made so far to formulate a new national consensus government.

He further pointed out the need of providing reliefs to quake survivors with utmost priority.

The RPP chairman added that the constitution drafting process was backed as the nation is facing such natural disaster. He even termed the government as sluggish as it was not found prompt enough in relief distribution and resettlement operations.

  He urged the government for shifting the quake affected people to safer zone from vulnerable settlement. RSS

Drinking water crunch in Arghakhanchi following April 25 quake 
Arghakhanchi, May 26: Locals in Dhakabang VDC of Argakhanchi have been hit hard due to drinking water shortage after the water source dried up following the April 25 earthquake and aftershocks.

As many as 715 households and eight schools in the VDC had been using the water brought from a source at Sepani of Gokhunga VDC for the last 30 years, said Secretary of the Drinking Water Users' Committee Narayan Khanal. The locals are surprised after the source of the drinking water suddenly dried up, he added.

The locals are using water drawn from the same source distributed through 82 taps but now they have to fetch water from the nearby rivers and other sources walking long distance.

The water source at Sepani has dried up and the villagers have problems for drinking water, said Tara KC, an official sent from the District Drinking Water and Sanitation Office, Arghakhanchi. RSS

Pakistani Embassy  awards winners of essay competition
Kathmandu, May 26: Pakistani Ambassador to Nepal Arshad Saud Khosa has distributed letter of appreciation and cash prize to the winners of an essay competition.

The twelve grader students had participated in the essay writing competition on the topic – 'The Middle-east Crisis and Its Economic Effects in Nepal.'

Ayush Kumar Shah of Trinity Higher Secondary School, Sushanta Shrestha of Graded English Medium School (GEMS) and Bibek Pandey of GEMS Higher Education Academy had won the first, second and third prize respectively. They were provided with a cash prize of Rs 30,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Similarly, 10 students were awarded with cash prize of Rs 10,000 as consolation.

The embassy has been organizing such essay writing competition annually aiming to strengthen students' literary writing capacity, the embassy sources said.

On the occasion, ambassador Khosa said that his country, government and people were committed to assist the Nepalese in any critical situation. RSS
