Chitwan, May 17: The CPN-UML Chitwan organized this morning a memorial assembly to remember the late UML General Secretary Madan Kumar Bhandari and Head of Organization Department Jeevraj Ashrit. The event was held at Dasdhunga of Chitwan, the location where the two UML leaders died in a road accident that took place in May 1993.
Various leaders speaking on the occasion lamented over the failure in finding those behind the murder of the two leaders, while appealing to the UML cadres to follow the footsteps of Madan Bhandari.
On the occasion, UML politburo member Kashinath Adhikari described the late leader Bhandari as a great leader of the world communist movement and alleged that he was murdered by reactionary forces as Nepal was laying the foundation for an international communist movement.
The leaders and members of the public present on the occasion also garlanded the statues of leaders Bhandari and Ashrit installed at accident spot. The two leaders were returning to Chitwan after attending a district convention of the party in Kaski when the jeep carrying them fell into the Trishuli river at Dasdhunga of Kabilas VDC, killing them in the incident 22 years ago.
